Criteria

What gets listed here

A tool is listed when it meets all four rules below. If a listing stops meeting them, we remove it.

1. No recurring charge

The tool is free, sold as a one-time purchase, or open source. It has no required subscription, no required monthly or yearly fee, and no core feature that is only available by subscription.

2. Data is stated plainly

The listing says what data the app reads, and whether that data leaves the device. If nothing leaves the device, it says so. If anything does, the listing names it.

3. Claims can be checked

Pricing and privacy statements must match the app itself: the store listing, the privacy policy, and what the app does. We do not promise things we cannot show.

4. Conflicts are disclosed

If a listed tool is made by the team that runs this site, the listing says so. Placement is not sold, and no tool pays to be listed.

Keeping listings current

Each listing shows the date it was last checked.
If a tool adds a subscription, moves core features behind one, or changes what data it reads, it is removed until it meets the rules again.
